Building Computers

Latest Project:

In my latest build I decided to use an AMD Athlon 64 CPU. After deciding that I wanted to use the 939-Pin variant of this CPU, I decided I would use MSI’s K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard. This board is very feature rich, and has been reviewed as one of the better performing boards that accommodate AMD’s 939-Pin configuration. This board also allows me to bypass buying a sound card, as it already has onboard 7.1 channel audio. After deciding on a motherboard, I started looking for memory that would not only allow me to overclock well, but would work well with the motherboard, something that has become more difficult since AMD started integrating the memory controller in their processors. I finally decided on Corsair’s XMS series memory after asking about a few friends experience with similar setups. When I decided to get memory that would allow me to overclock my CPU so high, I chose to get a heatsink fan for the CPU that would accommodate the high amount of heat that would be created. For this, I decided to get a Zalman copper cooler. Luckily, I was able to save some money on a hard drive by being the recipient of a Western Digital drive for Christmas. All that was left was for me to choose a video card. I went with the AGP version of the MSI 6600GT , it has a pretty good bang for the buck value, and is up to date on the latest DirectX features that play heavily in today’s video games.
